Delta Dental is a national system of independent member companies rather than a single insurer, so the plan on your card depends on your employer, your state and the network you were enrolled in. Most members use a PPO-type plan with access to two dentist networks, while others are enrolled in a managed-care plan with set copayments.
Your ID card or benefits summary names the plan and network — for example Delta Dental PPO, PPO plus Premier, or DeltaCare USA. Use that exact name when you call a dental office.

Benefits, networks and costs differ from plan to plan and change over time. Family Dentistry Clinic is an independent directory and is not affiliated with any insurer. Confirm coverage with your plan and the dental office before treatment.
| Plan or network | How it works | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Delta Dental PPO | Visit any licensed dentist. Costs are usually lowest with a dentist in the Delta Dental PPO network, and many plans also give in-network benefits with Premier dentists. | Whether your plan is PPO only or PPO plus Premier, and what you pay at each tier. |
| Delta Dental Premier | A fee-for-service network. Premier dentists accept Delta Dental’s negotiated fees, but your share is often higher than with a PPO dentist. | Whether the office is Premier only or also in the PPO network. |
| DeltaCare USA (DHMO) | Delta Dental’s managed-care plan. You choose a primary care dentist from the DeltaCare USA network and pay set copayments; plans often have no deductible or annual maximum. | That the office is your assigned DeltaCare USA dentist before booking; out-of-network care is generally not covered. |
Representative imageA dentist can participate in one Delta Dental network but not another. An office that says “we take Delta Dental” may be in the Premier network only, or may not accept DeltaCare USA at all. Confirm the specific network, not just the brand name.
Search the Find a Dentist tool for your Delta Dental member company and filter by the network printed on your card. Then call the office to confirm the dentist you will see is in that network.
Write down the name of the person you spoke to and the date. Coverage questions are easier to resolve later when you have a record.

No. They are separate networks. PPO dentists usually cost members the least; Premier dentists accept Delta Dental fees but your share may be higher. Many PPO plans include in-network benefits for both.
Generally no. DeltaCare USA is a managed-care plan: you choose a network primary care dentist, and specialist care is usually coordinated by that dentist.
Delta Dental plans are issued by independent member companies and designed by employers, so deductibles, maximums and covered services vary from plan to plan.
We checked carrier, government and employer plan documents listed below. Plan names and networks can change, and individual plans vary.
